About Playland at the Beach

Whitney’s Playland at the Beach was San Francisco’s seaside amusement park on the Great Highway, home of the Laffing Sal automaton and the It’s-It ice cream sandwich, until it closed in 1972.

Its western-themed Fun-Tier Town section had a Mold-A-Rama machine in 1963 vending the "2-Gun Cowboy," originally engraved FUN-TIER-TOWN / SAN FRANCISCO, a moldset later re-engraved for Griffith Park’s pony ride.
